Multiple Teams · Cavalier Late Comeback Comes Up Short (55-59)

The HHC Tournament Championship game gave fans from both teams all they wanted in thrills and dissappointments. The Cavaliers jumped out to a 17-10 first quarter lead fueled by Bennie Patterson high energy play. Prairie battled back little by little and went in to half time down by just one 28-27. Both Teams struggled to hit from beyond the arc. Prairie was dominating with their size inside and the Cavs were slashing to the basket to score in the lane as well. The momentum that C. Prairie built in the second quarter carried them into the third quarter and they built a 41-36 lead at the end of the third quarter. TC started a strong comeback on the strength of their full court pressure defense and fought back to tie the game at 50 and had the ball in their possession. After failing to score they found themselves in the position of having to foul and CP took care of business at the free throw line to seal the victory even though the Cavaliers outscored them in the fourth quarter. Bennie Patterson led the Cavs with 18 points, Nate Patton scored 13 and Bryce Cook 14. The Gophers countered with 4 players in double figures even though the Cavs held their leading scorer to 4 points. The Cavs are 15-2 and runner-up in the Hoosier Heartland Conference for the second consecutive year. Both teams fought hard and games like this go along way to preparing them for sectional play.
