The basketball gurus drew out a sectional bracket that could result in the two best teams meeting in the Sectional Final. So far they are getting what they wanted. Covenant Christian defeated Caston in the tournament opening game and advanced to meet the # 2 ranked Tri-County Cavaliers. The Cavaliers wasted no time jumping out to a quick 10-2 lead and never trailed. The Knights battled back to 19-16, prompting TC coach Tyler Scherer to take a time-out. The Cavs came out of the timeout with a renewed effort and pushed to a 37-22 half time lead. The Cavaliers never faltered in the second half as the dynamic trio of Patton, Ewen, and Patterson combining for 51 points and 15 rebounds powered the Cavs to a 66-46 final score.
Patton led the Cavaliers with 23 points, but everyone contributed. The Cavalier ball movement and sharing of the scoring opportunities was more than Covenant Christian was capable of handling defensively. The Cavs advance to the Championship game Saturday night at 7:00 pm EST
South Newton and Pioneer provided the game of the night with both teams battling hard for 4 quarters. A couple of timely steals defensively for the Rebels in the final minute secured the victory for the Rebels 45-39. The Rebels advance to meet the Cavaliers in the long anticipated rematch. The Cavaliers defeated the #8 ranked Rebels on December 27th. They will have to do it again if they want to win Sectional.
