The Tri-County boys’ basketball team advanced to the semifinals by defeating South Newton last night 44-43 in overtime.  The ball game was tight all the way through with the Cavs leading at half by the score of 26-17.  The Rebels cut into the TC lead in the 3rd quarter with the Cavs leading 34-30 at the end of the third quarter.  In the 4th quarter the Rebels outscored the Cavs 13-9 tying the game going into the final seconds of regulation.  Tri-County’s Bryce Cook’s shoot at the buzzer rimmed out and the two teams went to overtime.

In overtime Cook connected on 1 of 2 free throws that gave the Cavs all they needed.  Tri-County held the Rebels scoreless in overtime and forced a turnover with 1.8 seconds to go that sealed the victory for the Cavs.  Tri-County will now look to get revenge on Pioneer that just defeated the Cavs on Friday night (2/23).

Cook led the Cavalier offensive attack with 16 points.  Sam Getz and Riley Ewen each contributed 7 points with Kale Lawson chipping in 6.  Drew Moseley added 5 points with Logan Waibel and Dalton Justice finishing with 2 and 1 point respectively.

The Tri-County Sectional will continue tonight (Wednesday) with Covenant Christian taking on West Central in game one beginning at 6:00 EST with Caston and North White following game one.

Tri-County and Pioneer will play game one on Friday starting at 6:00 EST with the winners from Wednesday night playing after game one.  The championship game will be played on Saturday night, tipping off at 7:30 EST.
